Eric Bailly has asked Manchester United fans for
forgiveness following their dire display in last night’s Champions
League exit to Sevilla.
The Red Devils were surprisingly dumped out of the competition at the last-16 stage by their beatable Spanish opponents.
Having drawn 0-0 away from home, Wissam Ben Yedder’s
quick-fire second-half double proved too much for United despite Romelu
Lukaku’s volley.
That sent United unexpectedly crashing out of Europe after a dull display in which they rarely looked like scoring.
They mustered just four shots on target across the two legs
despite Sevilla, fifth in La Liga, having a negative goal difference in
the Spanish top-flight.
And the Ivory Coast international deemed it necessary to apologise to United fans for their meek performance via social media.
Bailly posted on his official Twitter account: “We ask the fans for forgiveness following our exit.
“Last night was terrible and we must all reflect and take note so it doesn't happen again.
“It's painful, but we have to get right backup, dust ourselves off, and look ahead.”

Bailly endured a below-par evening on a personal note,
allowing Ben Yedder space and time to shoot for the first goalhaving
already lost an aerial duel to Joaquin Correa in the build-up.
He did however complete a superb goal-saving tackle on
Correa after 47 minutes as he made a series of fine interceptions and
blocks.
But the defender could not help Jose Mourinho’s men avoid a
crushing setback that leaves them with only the FA Cup available to win
this season.
United will look to bounce back when they take on Brighton in the quarter-finals of the competition at Old Trafford on Saturday night (7.45pm kick-off).
