Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo wanted the club to
keep James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata because of their professional
attitude, according to reports.
Real Madrid lost Rodriguez and Morata over the summer, with the duo joining Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively.
Rodriguez signed a two-year loan deal with Bayern after falling out of favour with Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane.
Morata, meanwhile, was sold to Chelsea in the summer having grown tired of being behind Karim Benzema in the pecking order.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Ronaldo has two reasons for being angry at Zidane’s decision to let both players loose.
Speaking last month, the 32-year-old suggested that their quality meant Real Madrid were short of options.
“The players who have arrived have a lot of potential but
Pepe, Morata and James made us stronger and the players are younger
now,” Ronaldo said after their 3-1 Champions League defeat to Tottenham.
“Our squad isn’t worse, but it’s less experienced and experience is very important.
“But it’s no excuse and we shouldn’t be alarmed.”
Yet Diario Gol claim Ronaldo also pines for their professionalism.
The Portugal international felt their attitude was exemplary despite not always being guaranteed starters.
And Real, whose La Liga dream already appears to be in tatters, have certainly failed to replace them.
Summer signing Dani Ceballos has toiled at the Bernabeu and may leave when the transfer window reopens next month.
And striker Borja Mayoral has failed to replace the goals and guile of Morata up top.
