Chelsea are set to go head-to-head with Barcelona to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey in January, according to reports.
Leon Bailey is wanted by Chelsea and Barcelona in January.
Chelsea have been tracking Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey for months and are reportedly prepared to make a move in January.
The Sun claim the Blues have run the rule over the
20-year-old on three occasions this season, while also scouting him at
former club Genk last year.
The report says Antonio Conte’s side are lining up a £20million bid for the Jamaica Under-23 international.
However, the Stamford Bridge club reportedly face stiff competition for his signature from La Liga giants Barcelona.
Chelsea are said to have the upper hand in negotiations, having already held talks with Leverkusen.
And the Blues are said to be willing to loan Bailey back to
the German side for the remainder of the season, should a deal be
agreed.
The Sun claim the winger is not a target for Conte but is instead wanted by the club’s recruitment department.
Chelsea have made a habit of buying youngsters with a view to developing them for the future and it seems Bailey fits the bill.
Bailey is under contract at Leverkusen until June 2022, having joined from Belgian side Genk last January.
He is already a first-team regular for the German side, making 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
He has scored five goals and provided two assists this term.
