Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo refused to comment on on the feat of breaking his own UEFA Champions League record, instead slammed the media for misinterpreting his words after he scored twice to set yet another record in Tuesday’s 6-0 UCL win against APOEL Nicosia. Ronaldo’s brace against the Israeli side took his goals tally to 18 Champions League goals in 2017, the highest in the competition calendar year and also to 100 goals with Madrid in UEFA competitions. The 32-year-old was upset at how his comments about Madrid’s weakened squad (made after early November’s 3-1 defeat at Tottenham) led to a public disagreement with club captain, Sergio Ramos. “I’m not talking, as when I talk I’m not understood,” Ronaldo said without stopping in the stadium mixed zone. “And then you [media] talk about something I did not say,” Ronaldo said.

Three former football officials have been banned for life by the ethics watchdogs of FIFA.
The officials are from Guam, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
FIFA said on Tuesday that they were banned as part of efforts to address widespread corruption in the sport.
The officials are Richard Lai, the former Guam Football Association president and a former member of the FIFA audit and compliance committee.
Others are Julio Rocha, the former Nicaraguan Football Association president and a former FIFA development officer; and Rafael Esquivel, former Venezuelan Football Association president.
They have all pleaded guilty in the United States to separate federal charges ranging from wire fraud to racketeering and money laundering.
Lai had admitted to taking one million dollars from officials looking to buy influence, with powerful International Olympic Committee member Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait implicated.
Rocha and Esquivel also admitted to have taken bribes in exchange for the awarding of media and marketing rights of matches including World Cup qualifiers and regional tournaments such as the Copa America.
