Manchester United closed the gap on Manchester City at the
top of the Premier League table with ahard-fought victory over Arsenal.
Antonio Valencia struck the opener, while Jesse Lingard scored either side of a goal from Gunners forward Alexandre Lacazette.
De Gea, however, was the star of the show at the back, producing a record 14 saves to prevent Arsenal from salvaging a point.
And the Spain international has now opened up about the game, saying he felt unstoppable against the north London side.
“Sometimes, you just start a game with a really good save,
with a good feeling, you feel that [unstoppable] but we started the game
really well,we scored two important goals and it’s true that we lost a
bit of a control of the game after, but it was a good performance,” he
told Manchester United tv channel MUTV.
Several of De Gea’s saves stick in the memory.
The 27-year-old produced a stunning stop to deny Lacazette from close range.
And he also pulled off a superb save to stop Alexis Sanchez with his boot.
However, the pick of the bunch was a low dive to prevent Romelu Lukaku from turning the ball into his own net.
And De Gea praised the striker despite the near miss.
“Yes, he nearly scored an own goal!” he said.
“But I saved that ball and after that, I think he did a really good job.”
De Gea is likely to be busy next week when United go up against Manchester City in the derby at Old Trafford next Sunday (4pm).
