Steven Gerrard doesn’t get the impression that Antonio Conte will be at Chelsea much longer.
Chelsea bounced back from their shock defeat to West Ham at the weekend with a dominant 3-1 win over Huddersfield last night.
Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willian and Pedro grabbed the goals to
move Chelsea level on points with Manchester United but they still
remain 11 points behind Manchester City with both clubs to play this
evening.
It’s looking increasingly likely Chelsea will not be able
to defend their title from last season and Conte admitted earlier this
week that he thinks the race is already over.
He has repeatedly cut a frustrated figure this season, aiming jibes at the club over their transfer business in the summer.
And while Liverpool legend Gerrard believes Conte will be
backed to bring in the players he wants next month, he isn't sure how
long Conte will remain at Stamford Bridge.
“I think he’ll get the support he wants or needs,” Gerrard said on BT Sport.
“If he’s saying to the people above that he needs two or three players then I’m sure they’ll deliver them for him.
“I just get the impression that at any given time he could just walk out.
Antonio Conte has often criticised the club for not recruiting more players in the summer.
“I don’t know why but he never seems totally happy to me.
He added: “It was a great win tonight but he’s not smiling.
“It still seems there’s something behind the scenes that’s upsetting him. That’s the impression I get.”
