There have been a number of revelations in recent weeks from Antoine Griezmann’s new book.
Amongst them includes that Griezmann is open to the “possibility” of signing for Manchester United.
And, with Griezmann set to leave Atletico Madrid at the end
of this season it looks like a straight battle between Barcelona and
Manchester United for the French striker.
Griezmann has also revealed that he came close to signing
for Arsenal in 2013 and the behaviour of the London club has seriously
turned the Atletico Madrid striker against the Gunners.
Eric Olhats, the agent of Griezmann, was in regular contact with former Arsenal defender and now scout Gilles Grimandi in 2013.
Grimandi informed Olhats that Arsene Wenger wanted to sign Griezmann, who at the time was playing for Real Sociedad.
Griezmann was told to “put aside all other offers” and wait for Arsenal to come in.However, Arsenal did not make their move.
“Forget it”
Griezmann writes: “I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting …
when there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager
was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.”
The France attacker continues: “Finally a few hours before
the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. ‘I
don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
‘So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him: ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us.'”
The incredible part of Griezmann’s story about Arsenal is that the Gunners were active in the transfer market in the summer of 2013.
Famously, Mesut Ozil was brought in.But, it looks like Arsene Wenger chose to sign Yaya Sanogo instead of Griezmann.
