Chelsea winger Willian has claimed that the club have to
focus on the Premier League and domestic cups after their
disappointment in the Champions League.
The Blues saw their hopes of topping the group ended, and
it seems that now they have to face a nightmare draw on Monday as the
knockout stage draw takes place.
He also made it clear that while the draw options were less
than ideal, Chelsea are a big enough club to be able to cope with
whatever is thrown at them.
“No, we are not happy,” The Evening Standard report he said when asked about finishing second in the Champions League group.
“We wanted to finish first. We tried to create some chances in the second half.
“We have this really good team, a strong team. Our desire was to finish first.
“We are now second, it’s OK, so let’s think about the Premier League and the Cups.
“We are Chelsea, we are a big team like them.
“We don’t have a choice. We have to play against the big teams if we want to be the champions.”
The Champions League is a huge target for Chelsea, and after
winning the Premier League last term and missing out on UCL action, the
fans wanted to be back in the biggest domestic competition more than
ever – and will want to go all the way.
Willian may talk about a possible Premier League challenge,
but it seems that realistically, the cups are going to be the best
chance Chelsea will have of a trophy this season given the lead City have at the top of the table.
