Argentina goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, has admitted that La Albiceleste are looking up to Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Argentina is drawn in the same group with Nigeria, Croatia
and Iceland and the Manchester United goalie affirmed that the South
American giants will continue to depend on their inspirational captain.
He said this is because Messi is the best player in the world.
The Barcelona number ten helped Argentina qualified for the
tournament but was not listed when Nigeria defeated Jorge Sampoali’s
side 4-2 in a friendly match in Russia last month.
Romero told TyC Sports, ”We will be dependent on Messi all
our lives because he is the best and we know that at any moment we can
win a game.”
It does not matter if they criticize us for that, or that we play badly.”
We accepted those criticisms, but this last time they said
regrettable things, there was disrespect to the team, despite that, we
kept moving forward and qualified for the World Cup.”
The Manchester United goal tender has kept the goal for Argentina in three matches against Nigeria and has conceded three goals.
